central-park-walmart-3Walmart has now filed a completed Special Use Permit application for the proposed Supercenter at the Wilderness Battlefield.  The original application was filed in December last year, but it had to be modified after it was reviewed by the Orange County Planning Department, VDOT and other entities.

The application contains no major changes from the original, and still calls for a Supercenter store over 138,000-square feet on a knoll just north of the Route 20 and Route 3 intersection in Orange County.  The application also calls for three access points along the property for the Walmart, inlcuding one that would enter on the property immediately adjacent to the Walmart site that has been proposed for commercial development as well.  Having this third entrance would allow for easier development of the adjoining property in the future.

Now that Walmart has a completed application submitted to the county it will not be long until public hearings take place.  The application will first be presented before the Planning Commission at a public hearing, and after the Planning Commission makes its recommendation it will then go to the Board of Supervisors for a final decision.  The Planning Commission’s decision is non-binding and the Board of Supervisors can choose to ignore the Planning Commission’s recommendation if it chooses.

According to the Free Lance-Star, “a public hearing before the Planning Commission is expected May 21.”
